About me

I’m a Southern fiction writer out of Memphis. In this space I’ll riff on favorite writers and rave about beloved music. And I’ll share, in small-batch fashion, some of my own fiction, which is decidedly Southern, often comic, and I hope to God not prescient, or else we’re in a world of hurt. (Update: We’re in a world of hurt.)

I have two novels on the shelf and a third due in 2025 — COME AGAIN NO MORE (JackLeg Press). It’s the lyrical and quite profane tale of erstwhile newspaper reporter Charley Hull, set in these dying days of the profession. My short fiction has appeared in the Oxford American, Kenyon Review Online, The Common, The Pinch, and elsewhere.

For fans of: “The Collected Stories of Eudora Welty,” “Car Wheels on a Gravel Road,” and what Faulkner said about the past. (Or, alternately: “A Confederacy of Dunces,” “Otis Blue,” and what Flannery O’Connor said about Faulkner.)

Sound like your kind of thing? If so, please …
